So I was tagged by :iconkdfuturama: to do this thing :)

1) Please post the rules in your journal.
2) Say your 5 favourite bands, 3 favourite songs by them, and what genre they are.
3) No tag-backs and the same person can't be tagged twice.
4) You have to tag at least 5 people. Random ones will do if you're desperate. But you can tag more.
5) Post the icons of your tagged people in your journal, and send them a message telling them they're tagged.

As Kota did, I'm gonna tell you a little of why I like em', so you know about them but mostly because I like to ramble.

Bryan Scary & the Shredding Tears ([link])
Power Pop / Prog Rock / Glam

WHY: I LOVE songs that tell stories and concept albums. Their music is layered like crazy which is fun, and they can also shift very abruptly to minimalism fantastically. Bryan Scary does a lot of things that really should not be able to work musically, and makes it FANTASTIC. Also, they put on a live show that will floor you.
1. Shedding Tears (The Shredding Tears)
2. The Tumbling of Marguerite/Hold on George (The Shredding Tears)
3. The Zero Light (Flight of the Knife)
4. Son of Stab (Flight of the Knife)
5. Flight of the Knife Part 2 (Flight of the Knife)

The Protomen ([link])
Video Game/Rock/What??

WHY: It is a rock opera about Megaman. How can you not like it? A bunch of grown men gave themselves codenames and dress up as robots to perform. It is really really awesome and really stupid and that makes it great. Also, the lead guy has a super impressive vocal range.
1. The Will of One
2. The Stand (Man or Machine)
3. The Sons of Fate

Radical Face ([link])
Indie/Folk/Experimental

WHY: This guy, Ben Cooper, writes and records music in a tool shed in Florida. He makes very carefully structured, beautifully packaged concept albums about things like memories and feelings living in houses after we leave them. Each song is a haunting little story that you can listen to a million times because there are so many hidden layered things to find.
1. Welcome Home (Ghost)
2. Wrapped in Piano Strings (Ghost)
3. The Coldest Hands (Patients)

(If anyone gets interested in this guy, I can probably burn you a copy of Patients, I don't think it's available anymore. It was the trade project that 'We Can Be Happy Underground' was for.)

Electric President ([link])
Indie

WHY: Ben Cooper is also in this band. They make more story-songs, the classiest concept albums about the apocalypse or bad dreams that you will ever find. This reviewer said it best: “Electric President wants to be important to you. It is capable of soothing, of numbing, and of uplifting you. It will whisper in your ear and stroke your hair, hold your hand and gaze into your eyes. It is a charismatic charmer. Do not trust Electric President." [link]
1. We Were Never Built To Last (S/t)
2. Metal Fingers (S/t)
3. Monsters (Sleep Well)

I don't currently have another band that I'm quite as enthused about as these other guys, so I'm gonna give you a few single songs that I currently like a bunch.
1. Cruelty to Animals-Pernice Brothers
2. 3 Rounds and a Sound- Blind Pilot
3. Dancing in a Minefield- Plushgun
4. The Wanting Comes in Waves- Decemberists
5. I Am John- Loney Dear
6. War on Drugs- Barenaked Ladies
7. Failures- Rock n Roll Soldiers
8. Connjur- School of Seven Bells
9. Sax Rohmer #1 - Mountain Goats (and also 'No Children';)

I'm not gonna tag anybody because I'm persnickity, but I would really be interested in anybody's music at all! I like hearing of new things. Have at it!

We laugh at souls trapped in hell just as we laugh at old people- most of us will get there, sooner or later, but we like to forget that.
